Which First?

I so very rarely get into the politics thing, because as much as I like confrontation, I think there are far better things to start shit about than a bunch of self-serving asshats in Washington. So I will make this short and sweet.

Maybe I didn't pay that much attention before- but it seems to me that there are people who are being asked to run for President. Asked to run. The country seems to be behind people who haven't even announced their interest in the position, and I don't remember having seen anything quite like it before. For example, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton. THEY haven't put their hat in the ring- seems the country is trying to throw it in for them. Now, I am not trying to get behind one or the other- or anyone opposed to them for that matter. But a few years back, I don't remember seeing this kind of shit on the news about McCain or John Kerry. Did I miss it? Was there a clamboring of "We the people" asking these guys to please consider running?

It may be just my askew vision of the world- but it is like a portion of the country is saying, "Please, we need YOU. Save us!". I even saw people in OTHER nations on TV today saying that Obama is what America needs. The average citizen of the international community? Think the world is trying to tell us something about the current administration?

It also raises an interesting question in my mind. Given Hillary or Obama... which would we see in the white house first? A woman or a black man? Not who would do a better job, but with the general ideals of our twisted nation... A country who says women are equal, but doesn't treat them as equals, and who says men of all races and colors are equal- but doesn't live like it believes a single word of it.... Which do you think we will see first?

Discuss.

This time, 2 frickin' years before the election is the time when people start saying they are interested in running for president. When that happens the general populous also starts their little wish list. Especially if your team has been losing several times in a row. I remember Mario Cuomo fever back around the time the first Bush was president.

As for a woman or a black man first, I am torn. If it were Obama then it would still be yet another man in office. Still, HIllary can be a bit divisive. I just want a humanist for a change.

I HATE politics, too, but yesterday Obama was on Anderson 360? I think? My husband will watch CNN 24 hours a day which drives me nuts.
And I said, "Yeah, too fucking bad, it would be a waste of time. People would freak just at his weird name, THEN see he's black? Forget it."
My conservative, Republican husband said, "I hate to say it, but if that guy ran, I would vote for him."
I was SHOCKED.
I said, "Of course I would vote for him, I like what I've seen of him so far, and just so I could say his name a lot! That's a cool name! (Ha-ha.) It's just too bad, it'll never happen."
Same with Hilary, or a woman.

Maybe in the next century?
Or, after the latter half of this century, when whites become the minority, and we see the "Good Ol' Boy Club" start dying out/

I agree, (also on the hating to discuss politics point.. but here I am!) I think the Obama name might work against him.. it's so similar to Osama. Which really kind of sucks, regardless of any other factor.

I just LOATHE Hilary. I dislike so many things about her - anyone who starts out with a political agenda so many years in advance.. that kind of freaks me out.

Bring in Dr. Phil.. and Oprah. And throw in Howard Stern to balance things out. Oh - that would be three presidents.

I honestly have no idea, other than I don't like Hilary and I'll keep my mouth shut until i hear what everyone else running has to say.

Howard Stern for President.

People throwing other people's hats into the ring is nothing new.

The thing that is interesting about Obama, however (and the fact that "internationals" are saying he should run), is that he's a first term Senator! We don't even really know what he stands for, or what he is able to accomplish, yet! All we have is what he says - and let's be honest, most politicians talk a good game. If we went by purely what they said, lots of people would seemingly be "good" for our country.

The other thing to remember about what "the outside world" tells us about who to vote for is simply that they are the outside world. You could no more tell a Danish person who the "best" person to vote for in the upcoming Danish elections than they can tell you who to vote for in America. People from the outside world "feel" they know what's best for us Americans because America is on their tv sets everynight (albeit filtered through the eyes of a foreign perspective). I absolutely and 100% disregard what any "foreigners" tell me about voting in the US and I don't pretend like it tells us anything about any current administration.

That said, I would certinaly take Obama over Hillary. She's a huge bitch. And if you are clamoring for "change" in Washington, going back to a Clinton - a sure-fire partisan hack and a divisive political figure - won't do it.

Stern for President?? A sight better than Bush..but every pot smoking, post hippie would be voting. The only thing you can say about that is that every one would be happier and have the munchie's. At least Clinton was a happy President... his stress level was down and he did a good job..considering what he had to work with. But in the same breath, I suppose most men that have a "student" under thier desk do think clearer and tend to be more relaxed.

I think its time for a woman to be president. It would be the perfect time for her to clean house and get rid of the old fuckers that have been in thier seats since 1940-whatever.

When they retire they take with them every penny of thier campaign money that was never spent, and that was placed in a special trust, just on the occasion that they do retire. That Sen Byrd got over 5 million given to him when he retired: allof wheich was campaign bucks. PLUS 1 + million bucks as a retirement salary. Good Grief Charlie Brown!!! Ever wonder where your tax dollars end up??

I have always been of the opinion that whoever runs for President has wonderful ideas, and great ambitions. BUT Washington always finds their price. Ever notice your favorite politician start voting for something he campaigned against? I say they need to shoot the lobbiests..they carry cash in their pockets to pay off the politicians, so that they can get laws changed or swayed their way.

Benjamin Franklin and George Washington would jump from thier graves like scalded cats if they saw how THIER government has become...corrupt, greedy, evil and great shit-slingers.

This country needs new ideas and a fresh start. Its time that our military stop paying the price for a male pissing contest that can't seem to get resolved. The next time someone slaps the US in the face, SHE will slap back.

No. On second thought.

MAYOR RAY NAGIN for President. Bwa ha ha ha.

Better yet, Freud......a black gay woman for president.......that ought to cover all the Dem's bases, right? LOL.....

As far as the war goes, I don't know if we're right or wrong, but I'd rather go there and fight than stay home and have them come over...

I think we need younger people in government. Like late 20's atleast.....too many old fogeys in there tryin to run things and set themselves up for retirement..

Of the two, I'd vote for Hillary.
